When I volunteered at my local animal shelter for the first time, I fell in love with all the dogs, especially Max. He was and still is my inspiration. This magnificent breed, the American Pit Bull Terrier and American Staffordshire Terrier, has taught me compassion, strength of will and determination. Every pit bull I have encountered has taught me something about myself, no other dog has done that for me, and because of the profound impact they have had on my life, I want to give back to them on a larger level. And so "Max, The Shelter Dog" was manifested.

It is my hope that when you read "Max, The Shelter Dog" you will be inspired to volunteer at your local animal shelter, adopt a shelter dog, and be inspired to support a breed that has suffered from ignorance and discrimination.

I was invited by Little Pet Project, a photography company helping to raise awareness of their homeless animals in Tampa, Fl., to pose for their cause. I told them I'd love to but only if they could get me a shelter pit bull to pose with.
